MP3 Players/Pods - I am not au fait with them

Anybody out there in Shorthand World land know anything about separating the wheat from the chaff regarding MP3 Players and Pods. Although I have a stand alone laptop, I don't have the internet at home so anytime I go on line for any shorthand resources I have to do so at either the library or an internet cafe. I thought maybe I could download some of the sound files out there on to a memory stick and play them at home on my laptop, but then I thought, well maybe I could load some stuff on to an MP3 player or pod and work on them on the Tube (even if I am just writing them with my finger as the Tube gets so crowded). I have no idea at all about MP3 players or pods and there is so much 'bumf' in cyberspace it rather makes my head spin. My old faithful cassette-radio has recently given up the ghost (yes 'fraid I am the sort of old saddo who has been practising some of the time from tapes) so I may have to have modernity thrust upon me. Has anybody any suggestions about reasonable quality MP3 players or pods?

Thanks, Pat O'Neill
